Discipleship Happens in Relationships

About Women's Discipleship

Lesley Hildreth

Women’s Discipleship Director

Summit Women, it is both an honor and a joy to serve you as the Women’s Discipleship Director. Creating a leadership and disciple making culture among the women here at The Summit church is no small task. However, this task is not mine alone. We have volunteers serving as Women’s Discipleship Coordinators at each of our campuses and each of these women are leading teams of women that facilitate opportunities for discipleship.

Mission and Vision

Women’s Discipleship provides women with both formal and informal opportunities to learn how to read, study, teach, and apply the truths of Scripture in their everyday lives. This happens through both church wide and campus based opportunities. Church wide opportunities allow Summit women from our various campuses to come together for events like: panel discussions, one night seminars, worship nights, and a biennial Women’s Conference. Campus based opportunities include opportunities like: Bible studies, courses through the Summit Institute, and The Gathering. We want to champion the women at The Summit church to thrive as followers of Jesus and to equip them for God’s mission.

We believe God gives to women every spiritual gift and makes them equal partners in the progress of the mission of God into the world.

Women’s Discipleship at The Summit church exists to equip women in the church for God’s mission by focusing on three main initiatives:

  1. Equip – We want Summit women to know God through his word and to base their lives on his teachings. Our conviction is that the Bible is our only reliable counsel and source of truth. Because of this, we are committed to teach our women to study, apply, and teach God’s word.
  2. Lead – Our goal is to develop women to lead other women by using their spiritual gifts to contribute to the body by serving the church and their communities for God’s kingdom purposes.
  3. Send – In order to fulfill the Great Commission, disciples need to be sent. We will send women into small groups, families, the workplace, communities, North American church plants, and overseas to make disciples.

Core Values

  • Discipleship Happens Best in Community – 1 Thess. 5:11; Gal. 6:1-2
The Christian life was never meant to be lived in isolation; we were created for relationship with God and for relationship with one another. We believe that community is the best context for discipleship. Every member at the Summit should be in a Summit small group. This community is crucial for your spiritual health as you grow in your understanding and application of God’s Word in your life.
  • Jesus Commissions Believers to Make Disciples of All Nations Matt. 28:18-20; 2 Tim. 2:2
We want to see women thrive as they study God’s Word, teach His Word, engage the culture, and make disciples of all nations. Disciple making takes place when women engage others with the Gospel and teach the things of God to new believers so they can grow in their knowledge and new life with Christ.
  • Reaching The Lost in Our Community Requires Missional Living1 Cor. 9:19-23; 2 Cor. 5:20
Disciple making happens when believers live a life on mission every day. As Christ’s ambassadors, it is our responsibility to extend the message of reconciliation to the lost community around us. This lifestyle requires intentionality and sacrifice as we commit to plead with the lost on Christ’s behalf.
  • God Calls Us to Train and Equip Believers to Lead the ChurchTitus 2:3-5; Eph. 4:11-13
It is our desire to see Summit women trained and equipped for ministry in the home, workplace, church, locally and around the world. We believe by equipping women we will see a change from a consumer mentality to a gathering of people who serve one another and the community around them by using their unique spiritual gifts for His kingdom purposes.
  • The Ministry of the Church is For and By Women of All Ethnicities, Ages, and Stages of LifeGen. 1:27; 1 Cor. 12:18-20
Women find their value first and foremost from being made in the image of God. We believe that God has created every woman for a specific reason and with a specific purpose. We need every woman at the Summit to use their gifts to contribute to the body by serving the church and their communities in order to fulfill God’s mission.
