How Small Groups Work
A small group usually consists of 7-15 Summit attendees who meet on a regular basis in someone's home to study and discuss the Bible, pray for one another, care for one another, and do ministry together. These groups meet all across the Triangle on various nights of the week.
We break down the elements of group life by our church's mission statement:
Love God
Bible Study: A group studies the scriptures, usually along with the sermon from the previous weekend.
Prayer: A small group cultivates an atmosphere of confident continuous prayer.
Love Each Other
Care: The small group is the primary care outlet for the people of the Summit church. This is where we practice the "one another" commands of the New Testament.
Service in ministry: The members of a small group are all encouraged to volunteer to serve in a Summit ministry (summit kids, students, college, first impressions, etc.)
Love Our World
Community Ministry: The small group actively seeks to share Christ’s love by participating in ongoing community ministry in Raleigh-Durham.
Church Planting: Every small group supports a Summit sent church planter in the forms of prayer, visits, and other means of encouragement.
Frequently Asked Questions
When do small groups meet?
Small groups meet all throughout the week. Most meet in the evening, a few meet in the morning, and the only time they do not meet are Sunday mornings. By meeting at another time other than Sunday morning you are free to both attend a worship service and serve in one of our Sunday morning ministries.
Do you have men's and women's ministries?
You may come from a church background that included men's and women's ministries. The value of such ministries is connecting people to one another to grow together in gospel-centered relationships. We believe such relationships can be formed in the context of small groups. Therefore while we do not have formal men's and women's ministries, you can find men's and women's small groups throughout the week gathering to accomplish the goal of life transformation through the gospel.
I've got kids, what do you do about childcare?
We make childcare available to all groups through our reimbursement voucher linked below. We will pay for most of your childcare expenses to attend small group. Its that important to us. Some groups also choose to make childcare available as a part of the group experience. To find out how a particular individual group handles childcare you can ask the group leader.
