Give

At the Summit, we believe that giving should be a joyful response to a life changed by the gospel. We invite you to pray and reflect on what God has done for you in Christ that you may respond joyfully!

For your convenience, we have provided several different ways for you to give. Each method allows for God’s work to be accomplished as you are faithful to give back. Find one that’s right for you.

Over the next two years (2013-2014), we are focusing all of our generosity – tithes, offerings, and gifts – into one All-In fund. This is a single fund that will provide the resources needed to: grow our current ministries, bless our community, expand current campuses and launch new ones, and increase our role in church planting both here and around the world.

Having one fund for all giving celebrates the fact that everything we do and everything we support is important in the Kingdom of God. All-In giving has already started. However, it's not too late to join The Summit and go All-In for the mission of God with us.

There are several benefits to online giving for both you and The Summit Church:

Faithfully Honoring God
When you sign up to give online you are deciding in advance to faithfully give. The Bible teaches that we are to honor God with the "first fruits" of our labor (Proverbs 3:9). By setting up a recurring contribution that is scheduled to come out of your account on the day you specify, you can ensure that your first fruits are faithfully given back to God. (1 Corinthians 16:1-2)

Simplicity

You won’t have to remember whether you gave this month or send in an offering by mail when you’re on a trip.

Security
We utilize an encrypted secure website for our giving portal to ensure protection of your sensitive personal information and giving history.

Transparency
You have the ability to quickly see your online giving history directly through our giving portal instead of having to contact our Finance Department for a personalized report.

Online Giving Privacy Policies
Your information is held securely in our secure servers. Your information will remain private and will never be given away to third parties, other than to process your scheduled contributions. You can schedule new contributions at any time and can modify or cancel those contributions at any time prior to the date they are scheduled. If you have any problems or questions related to this, please contact us at giving@summitrdu.com

Every weekend we offer an opportunity for you to offer your gift by placing it in the offering bucket during our worship service. For your convenience, offering envelopes are available for your gift of cash. If you would like offering envelopes please contact our finance department at giving@summitrdu.com or call 919.383.7100.

You can mail your gift in cash or a check (made payable to "The Summit Church") at any time. Please send it to the following address:

The Summit Church
Attn: Contributions
2335-114 Presidential Drive
Durham, NC 27703

Many banks offer their customers the ability to have funds automatically drafted from an account in order to be mailed to a recipient (such as a church) on a recurring basis. Please contact your personal bank if you wish to pursue this option to set up The Summit Church as a new payee.

Stocks/Bonds/Securities
Appreciated marketable securities such as stocks or bonds are a great way to maximize your giving, because you receive an immediate income tax deduction for the full fair market value of your securities. In addition, you pay no capital gains tax on the difference between your cost and the fair market value. We will gladly accept these types of gifts. To ensure that you receive the proper tax-deductible credit it’s essential that you contact us at giving@summitrdu.com or at 919.383.7100 to let us know of your gift.

Other Assets / Donations
If you’d like to discuss a possible gift of real estate, a vehicle, a trust or retirement account, credit card rewards point or airline miles, or another unique gift, please contact our pastor of stewardship and generosity, Blair Graham, at bgraham@summitrdu.com or 919.383.7100.

The ministry of The Summit Church is funded by God's provision through the tithes and offerings of faithful Summit members and attenders. The Summit works very hard to ensure we are doing everything possible to properly manage the financial resources that God has entrusted to us. We honor God's provision by pursuing wise and faithful stewardship, ethical business practices, and full accountability so that the financial integrity of the Summit remains beyond reproach.

Our mission is facilitated through our system of internal controls over financial reporting and our internal budgeting and reporting processes. We also voluntarily invest in an annual audit performed by an independent, certified public accounting firm.

Members of The Summit Church may request a copy of our most recent budget or ask general questions about our financial practices at any time by contacting us at giving@summitrdu.com.

General Giving

Frequently Asked Questions

If I give a donation to the church, will I receive a tax receipt?

Every donation that we receive is recorded in our financial database. If you make a tax-deductible contribution to the church, we will send you a year-end statement with all of your contributions for the year. We mail these out to your home address annually during the month of January. To ensure that you receive your statement, you can always confirm your address with us by calling our main office or contacting us through the website.

If I make a contribution to the church, how I do know where my money is going?

Unless otherwise designated on your gift, all donations go to our general budget. If you have a question about our general budget, you can feel free to contact Reggie Oakley by calling our main office at 919.383.7100. We also encourage all of our members to attend our annual business meeting & vision night where we present and vote on our budget.

If you designate that your gift should be allocated towards a specific fund (missions, Christmas Missions Offering, Believe, etc.), we promise that your gift will be directed only towards that fund.

What is the difference between tithes & offerings?

The main difference between "Tithe" and "Offering" is not in the allocation of the funds (they both go to funding our general budget), but rather in the meaning behind the words. Tithe refers to the traditional term in the Old Testament where the people of God were asked to give the first 10% of their income back to God. "Offering" refers to any additional money beyond your “tithe” that you would like to give to the work of God through the Summit Church. They both serve the same practical purpose as far as designation to our budget but some people choose to separate their donation into the tithe (10% of their gross income) and offering (any additional money that they would like to donate above and beyond their tithe).

How long will it take for you to process my donation?

For all of our donations (online, cash, check, weekend service, by mail, etc.), please allow 5-7 days for it to clear your account. If you do not see that it has gone through after one week, please contact us so that we can investigate the issue.

Can I give a cash donation and still get tax-deductible credit?

Yes, you can. Place your cash into a clearly marked & sealed envelope, with your name, address, and contact information.

If I miss the weekend service, can I still make a contribution?

Yes. If you are not able to give at one of our weekend services but would still like to make a contribution, you can either mail in your check or cash donation, or go to our online giving site and make a one-time donation.

Online Giving

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I entered my information correctly and my payment was made?

It will take a couple days for all payments to be processed but if all the information was entered correctly, you should see a draft in your account on the day that you scheduled your payment. If you do not see it within a few days of the scheduled payment, your transaction may not have gone through. If this is the case, we will contact you to let you know that your transaction was not successful.

Why do I need to select which campus I attend? Does my donation go directly to that campus?

If you choose to make an online donation to our general fund (through tithes or offerings), we ask you to select which campus you attend. All of the money goes to our general budget (not to a campus-specific budget). The campus designations are for our own records to track campus giving.

Can I set up a recurring payment through my credit or debit card?

Right now, our only option to pay a tithe or offering online is through your checking account. If you make a one-time payment for an event registration, you may have the option to use your credit or debit card. But for all donations to our general budget, we only offer payment through your checking account.
